Skoda’s UK network is now taking orders for the frugal 1.4 TDI Fabia GreenLine with the first customer deliveries expected from the 21st of April. Thanks to the additional aerodynamic panels being fitted to the underside of the chassis, the replacement of the spare tyre with a puncture repair kit and the raising of the front bumper by 35mm, the diesel-powered Fabia 1.4 TDI Greenline boast an avg. fuel consumption of 57.4 MPG US (69 MPG UK or 4.1-liters per 100 km) on the combined cycle and CO2 figures of 109g/km. -Continued

That means that on a single tank of diesel a Fabia GreenLine driver can expect to cover an incredible 689 miles or 75 miles more than the stanbard Fabia 1.4 TDI. Buyers can opt for either hatchback or estate versions of this latest addition to the Fabia family, which cost £11,490 and £12,140 respectively.

While we would have preferred it if the Fabia pictured above was an RS version fitted with the VW Group’s 2.0 TFSI petrol unit (the one found in the Golf GTi, TT-S etc), this is the first prototype of the Fabia Super 2000 Rally car that will compete in the Super 2000 category.

The race-prepped Skoda is based on the second-generation Fabia and, in compliance with the FIA regulations, is equipped with a two-litre atmospheric four-cylinder petrol engine, a six-speed sequential transmission and a four-wheel drive system with three mechanical differentials. -Continued

Commenting on the occasion, Dr. Eckhard Scholz, Škoda Auto BOD Member responsible for technological development, said: “We are glad to have started testing the Fabia Super 2000. This year we are planning to optimise and certify the vehicle so that we can use it on both national and international levels.”

“When exactly will the vehicle be released for competition use will depend on the achieved progress, relevant test results and the final certification. Then we are also planning to offer the vehicle to private teams. Based on a customer service arrangement, further development work on the vehicle will be done in close cooperation with our importers worldwide“, Scholz added.

Martin Lauer, Head of Corporate Communications, adds: “The history of over hundred years of involvement in motorsport is unique, and we are proud to be able to continue the success story with the Fabia Super 2000. We believe that the vehicle will become a successful part of this tradition, because car racing is popular all over the world and offers great opportunities to promote our products“.

Well, not much of a concept since Skoda has announced that it’ll offer a white-painted roof for the new Fabia (photos below). Only difference is that this one draws its uniqueness due to the silver painted roof & mirror covers and the pearl-black body color. So, I guess at the Frankfurt show we’ll see a Fabia concept with a white colored roof "dressed" with the British err, sorry I mean the Czech flag? -Continued: Click “Read More…” below to see the press release and more photos

PRESS RELEASE

A Fabia concept car will present the design of the new model in an attractive elegant combination of colours in Geneva. In particular, the contrast between the black body with a pearl effect and the silver-painted roof is most impressive. Looking also very attractive indeed, a white-painted roof will be available for the new mass-produced Fabia.

Along with the “civilian” version Skoda also presented a racing study of its second generation Fabia hatch. The Fabia S2000 has been designed to comply with the new FIA Rally Regulations so as to compete in the 2008 IRC (Intercontinental Rally Challenge). In accordance with the regulations, the 4WD Fabia S2000 is equipped with a two-litre, four-cylinder normally aspirated petrol engine that delivers 280Hp. -Continued: Click “Read More…” below to see additional images & the official press release

PRESS RELEASE: THESKODA RALLY CAR STUDY

Skoda is going to continue in the more than one hundred years old motor sport tradition (anniversary was celebrated in 2001). The concept car S2000 was presented for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2007. It is an attractive demonstration of how the car producer will take up the great tradition again.

The S2000 is a concept car on the basis of the second generation Fabia Hatchback and has been designed to comply with the new FIA Rally Regulations. In accordance with the regulations, the car will have a two-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine.

The study Super 2000 exhibits fundamental benchmark data – 3,992 mm in length with a wheelbase of 2,486 mm correspond to the values of the new Fabia. A clear difference to the serial model, however, is the 4WD, the roll cage in the interior and further parts of the car in compliance with the regulations.

Question: What do you do when you have a bunch of models left on the shelf a few months before the next generation goes on sale?
Answer: You stick a "Special Edition" name-tag, throw in a couple of extras and cross your fingers hoping buyers will go for it...

PRESS RELEASE: Skoda Unleashes Special Edition Fabia vRS

Question: what’s blue and red on the outside, black on the inside and excellent value for money?
Answer: the stunning new Škoda Fabia vRS Special Edition. -Continued: Click “Read More…” below to see the rest of the press release

To celebrate the fourth and final year of one of the UK’s best-loved diesel pocket rockets, Skoda has produced 1,000 Special Edition vRS’ featuring individually numbered black leather seats, sporty red callipers and Race Blue metallic paint – the only colour available and the first time it’s been offered on Fabia.

In addition to this – and the impressive spec already offered on vRS models - the Special Edition also benefits from cruise control, ‘sunset’ glass and a six-disc CD changer. You can even choose the number you want on your seats (001-1,000). However, this is on a first come first served basis.

Prices for the limited run start at £12,990 (standard vRS’ cost £12,375). Not only does this compare favourably to similar models from rival manufacturers, but it also represents outstanding value when you consider that the extra equipment included would otherwise cost over £2,000.

Buyers will still find the highly-acclaimed 1.9 TDI engine with its 130bhp and 310Nm of torque under the bonnet. The plucky powerplant not only dispatches the sprint to 62mph in 9.5 seconds on its way to a 128mph top speed, but is also capable of returning over 64mpg on the extra urban cycle.

Nearly 11,000 Fabia vRS’ have been sold in the UK since the sporty model’s introduction back in 2003. Now in its final year, the frugal yet feisty favourite will be phased out during 2007.

The all-new Fabia hatchback goes on sale in May with the new vRS derivative expected sometime in 2008.

VW’s Czech subsidiary just released a full image gallery of the 2007 Fabia. As we forecasted at the initial presentation of Skoda’s new supermini in December, the new Fabia’s dashboard comes straight from the new Roomster. Also, the new set of pictures reveal that Skoda will be offering the Fabia with a… white colored rooftop! Of course, that has nothing to do with the fact that the Fabia draws it looks from the Suzuki Swift which, as we all know, is inspired from the MINI… (Continued – Click Read More to see the full image gallery)

The world premiere of the new generation of the Skoda Fabia will take place at the Geneva Auto Show in March 2007. This will be followed by its launch in the European markets. Production of the bodywork versions, the Fabia Estate and the Fabia Sedan of the first generation will be continued.

DECEMBER PRESS RELEASE: THE NEW SKODA FABIA HATCHBACK – THE SUCCESSOR OF THE SUCCESSFUL COMPACT AUTOMOBILE NOW PRESENTS ITSELF

The new Skoda Fabia is characterized by all of the core values, which have made more than 1.5 million customers buy the first generation – and this has been further developed even further by Skoda. In its class, the Fabia is the vehicle with the largest knee and headroom in the rear. The occupants in the front traditionally enjoy a great deal of space.

The total length of the new Fabia has, thanks to the new design of the front bumper, increased. With its external measurements (3992 mm x 1642 mm x 1498 mm) the new Skoda Fabia hatchback is among the largest in its class. The effectively usable space offers the occupants more space both in the front seats and in the rear. The boot has a basic capacity of 300 litres, and, when the rear seats are folded down, increases to 1163 litres.

In addition to its extraordinary reliability, spaciousness, its excellent driving properties, the safe construction and the outstanding price-performance ratio, there is also a wide range offered in bodywork external colours with its fresh design and coupled with a combination of high-quality materials and colours in the interior. The Fabia also exhibits further improvements in the sector of safety. New: passengers on the front and the rear seats are protected by head airbags. In the rear, a child’s seat can be affixed with a top-tether belt which limits the forward movement of the upper part of the child’s seat in the event of a head-on collision.

State-of-the-art technologies, such as, for example, virtual reality, were applied in the development and the construction of the automobile and its equipment. And with this new model, Skoda is also providing the possibility of ordering the six-gear automatic Tiptronic transmission for the smallest of its models instead of the five-gear manual transmission, electronically controlled Climatronic air conditioning, or head airbags. In the field of communication technologies, the new Fabia provides a modern, innovative preparation for the GSM telephone with Bluetooth, or the audio system with the possibility of connecting external units such as MP3 players or iPod.

A total of seven engines will be available fort he new Fabia – four petrol and three diesel engines. Both of the popular three-cylinder petrol engines now have increased performance and provide the car with more elasticity.

Petrol Engines - Diesel Engines:
1.2 HTP/44 kW - 1.4 TDI PD/51 kW
1.2 12V HTP/51 kW - 1.4 TDI PD/59 kW (also with DPF)
1.4 16V/63 kW - 1.9 TDI PD/77 kW (also with DPF)
1.6 16V/77 kW (also with automatic transmission)
